Job Description
Purpose of the role
To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
Accountabilities
Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

As a Software Engineer within Barclaycard Payments, you will help design, build and operate customer-facing products that support one of the UK's leading payments businesses. Working across the technology stack, you will contribute to the delivery of scalable solutions, collaborate with experienced engineering teams and play a key role in shaping the future of a business undergoing significant transformation.
Barclaycard Payments processes billions of pounds of payments annually for businesses across the UK. Through our strategic partnership with Brookfield Asset Management, we are transforming the business into a standalone fintech focused on innovation, growth and customer outcomes.
As a Software Engineer, you will work as part of a Product Delivery team responsible for building, delivering and supporting products end-to-end. You'll collaborate with engineers, product teams and business stakeholders to develop high-quality solutions, contribute to technical improvements and support the ongoing evolution of our technology landscape.
To be successful as a Software Engineer you should have:
Software engineering experience, with knowledge of modern application development practices.
Experience developing solutions across frontend, backend or full-stack environments.
A focus on delivering customer-centred solutions and positive business outcomes.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Additional skills of value include:
Experience within payments, fintech or technology-led organisations.
Knowledge of AI technologies and machine learning integration.
Experience with technologies such as Rust, Kotlin, TypeScript or React.
Knowledge of Kubernetes, cloud-native platforms and containerisation technologies.
Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD methodologies and infrastructure as code.
Knowledge of event-driven architecture, messaging technologies and API development.
This role is based in London. We support a hybrid working model, with colleagues expected to attend the office three days per week. Participation in an on-call rota may also be required.
