Company Description
If you are eager to be at the heart of the Daily Express' video transformation, this is the role for you. As a key technical and creative presence in our studio setup, you will drive the production of the Daily Express’ core YouTube programming, including flagship shows like the Daily Expresso and Royals Unscripted.
About us
Hello, we’re Reach. Every day, our trusted news, stories and content connect with millions of people where they live - whether that’s on their social feed or at their neighbourhood newsstand; through their local community or their take on the hot topic of the day.
We're home to more than 120 trusted brands - from household names like the Mirror, Express, Daily Star and Daily Record, to local titles like the Manchester Evening News, MyLondon, BelfastLive and brands making a splash in the US like the Irish Star.
It's our ability to understand people and the things that matter to them that makes us the UK and Ireland's largest commercial news publisher. We reach 70% of the UK's online population and speak to over 100 million social followers around the world. And we’re just getting started…
Your story, with Reach
As a modern media organisation, we're much more than just news. And it takes a wide range of people and skills to serve diverse audiences, customers and communities like we do.
We know everyone has their own story to tell, so we’ve built an environment where every background is respected and every day is a day to explore.
We’ll help you build a career that works with your life, while giving you the space to create and grow.
Job Description
You will play a crucial part in elevating newsroom video and ensuring rigorous legal and editorial standards while delivering visually striking, broadcast-quality content. You will utilise your studio expertise and editorial judgment to produce truly engaging long-form news and feature content tailored for YouTube audiences.
As a confident voice in video production, you will pitch exciting, original visual concepts daily in a fast-paced newsroom environment, constantly refining how we bring high-profile stories to life on screen. You should also be knowledgeable around social video and know how to make people stop scrolling and watch our content instead.
You will ensure all content is optimised to drive subscriber/follower growth and watch time on YouTube and other social video platforms, using performance metrics, competitor analysis, and platform developments to inform production decisions.
This role involves directing and operating equipment behind the camera, managing multi-camera studio workflows, and presenting on-camera where required.
This is a hybrid role working 3 - 4 days per week from our Canary Wharf hub. The role will require weekend work and flexible hours during the week, this will be discussed at interview stage.
Qualifications
Who are we looking for:
An NCTJ or BJTC qualification alongside a proven track record in a breaking news environment is essential, as is a thorough practical understanding of UK media law, copyright, and editorial standards.
Demonstrated mastery of professional-level DSLRs/mirrorless camera setups, studio lighting, audio capture, and multi-cam workflows. Experience filming high-quality long-form studio shows and sit-down interviews is required.
Expert skills in Adobe Premiere Pro (or equivalent NLE software) for long-form video editing, color grading, and sound mixing. Experience presenting on-camera and recording professional voiceovers is essential.
Deep technical and strategic understanding video optimisation on YouTube and other social platforms, thumbnail best practices, titling, analytics, and content distribution to hit key performance metrics. Ability to adapt long-form studio segments into dynamic teasers or YouTube Shorts is a bonus.
Strong news sense, accuracy, and the confidence to make sound production decisions under tight deadlines and live-to-tape conditions.
