We are looking for an experienced and proactive Linux Desktop Engineer to help develop and support our Linux desktop environment, ensuring secure, reliable and high-performing services for our staff and students. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys combining hands-on technical expertise with customer-focused technologies, influencing the future direction of services and making a meaningful impact on teaching and research across the University. If you're a problem solver with strong Linux expertise, a passion for continuous improvement and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service, we'd love to hear from you. A minimum of three days per week in the office is expected. About the role In this varied and rewarding role, you'll take ownership of the day-to-day management and continuous improvement of Linux desktop services, working across system administration, security, service development, automation, troubleshooting and user support. You'll play a key role in maintaining service reliability, proactively identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing solutions that enhance the user experience. Working as part of a collaborative and customer-focused IT team, you'll engage with colleagues, partners and external institutions to deliver technical solutions, support service delivery, and help shape best practice through documentation, service monitoring and ongoing service improvement initiatives. This role includes supporting the entire lifecycle of device management from procurement to disposal. A significant part of the role will be providing guidance and support to staff working with Linux desktops, helping them work securely and use a range of applications. Why Join Us? We are committed to creating a supportive, inclusive and collaborative community. We work together to deliver positive change and provide an outstanding experience for our students and staff.
